Child Care Centers & Nursery Schools-What are they?

A child care center is a facility which usually cares for a larger number of children than a family child care home. It's not usually found within a residential area, although it can be near apartment complexes or on-site within or outside of an employer's facility. Preschool/Nursery School is a program which is required to be licensed, but the children (usually between 3-5 years) are not in care for the whole day and only 2 or 3 days a week.

Child Care Center

  • The program is licensed for 13 children or more
  • Pre-license inspections are required
  • Local zoning laws may apply
  • Total license cost for the first year is approximately $75.00 for a licensed capacity of 29 or less children; $100.00 for a licensed capacity of 30 or more children
  • License Requirements (13 pages)

Preschool/Nursery School

  • Educational services provided
  • Children do not nap or eat a meal
  • Pre-license inspections are required
  • Total license cost for the first year is approximately $75.00
